Welcome to the Comox Valley
The Comox Valley is situated on the east side of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, nestled between the Beaufort Mountains and the ocean. It is only a 30 minute flight from Vancouver, a 70 minute flight from Calgary and Edmonton, a three hour drive from Victoria and less than 1 hour from Nanaimo. International flights are now available directly from the Comox Airport (YQQ).
Historic Cumberland
Located in the Comox Valley south of Courtenay, and once Canada's smallest and western most city, Cumberland was founded in 1888 by coal baron Robert Dunsmuir. It was a bustling town for many years at the beginning of the century. Just west of Cumberland there was once a crowded mining settlement called Chinatown, at one time was 2,000 Chinese in this community. Located just east of the village are the Japanese Cemetery, the Chinese Cemetery, and the burial site of Ginger Goodwin, a popular labour leader whose was slayed in 1918.
A short distance away lies 10 miles of crystal clear fresh water, Comox Lake. This 700 foot deep scenic boasts excellent trout fishing. It is also a recreational centre for boaters, swimmers, hikers and mountain bikers. Out of the lake flows the Puntledge River, an excellent venue for "tubing" in the summer. The river is also a great place to watch the salmon spawning in the autumn. Come and see Cumberland, small town friendly and rich in history.

Spectacular Scenery
The year-round temperate climate makes it a wonderful place to enjoy the "west coast lifestyle". Take a walk along the river and watch the eagles flying overhead. Walk along the beach and hear the seals barking and see the whales splashing. Walk almost anywhere in the Comox Valley and view "Queenesh', the majestic glacier. The scenery is truly spectacular.
Lots of Activities to Choose From
Skiing and snowboard enthusiasts will love the close proximity of Mt. Washington, just a 25 minute drive away. Golfers will enjoy the variety of golf courses available within a ten-minute drive.
